Nowadays stress has become a constant companion for many people. Most of us are aware that stress can have an impact on heart, sleep, digestion, very few are aware that it will affect our oral heath too.

At Chitra Multispeciality dental clinic ,we see many patients with dental issues where stress is a hidden culprit.

Lets explore how stress affect our teeth,gums,and overall oral health.


1. TEETH GRINDING( BRUXISM)

When we are under stress we grind or clench our teeth subconsciously especially during sleep. This is known as bruxism. It can lead to

5. MOUTH SORES AND CANKER SORES

Stress is a known trigger for mouth ulcers,also known as canker sores.

  • • High stress level can weaken our immune system leading to ulcers
  • • Stress can lead to hormonal changes which increases the frequency of ulcers
  • • Stress can cause increased level of cortisol in saliva and lead to ulcers

1. STRESS MANAGEMENT

Do regular exercise and maintain good sleep hygiene. Try deep breathing, yoga and mindful practices.

2. STICK TO A ROUTINE

Don’t skip brushing and flossing even if you are busy.

3. PROTECT YOUR TEETH

Use a custom night guard if there is teeth grinding

4. STAY HYDRATED

Drink plenty of water to overcome the dry mouth

5. VISIT YOUR DENTIST REGULARLY
